I'm trying to research a dedication inscribed on the rear of a Smiths De Luxe watch and wondered if you can help?
The dedication reads: Presented by WTE to W H G Murphy in recognition of selfless action on Dec 5th 1957.
I'm assuming WTE is the station code for Whitlocks End Halt station?
Was Mr Murphy action associated with Lewisham rail crash on the 4th December'57 and attached to Whitlocks End, or was there an incident locally?
I have contacted another web site for their help but as if get nothing has been discovered about the man or incident/event.
